With over 42,000 youth participating across the country, in multiple languages and reflecting Canada’s multicultural landscape, kids and youth in Scouts chart their own path of discovery. Through a variety of fun experiences, outdoor adventures and contributions to their community, Scouts builds resilience and skills that set them up for life.
First Gravenhurst Scouting
Started in 1910, First Gravenhurst Scouting has been around for over 100 years. We meet in one of the few Scout Halls in the country at 425 John St South, Gravenhurst, which we do rent out to the community. We currently have the following groups/sections running.
Beavers ages 5,6,7 meeting at Hall Thursdays 6-7pm
Cubs ages 8,9,10, meeting at Hall Tuesdays 6:30-8pm
Scouts ages 11,12,13,14, meeting at Hall Tuesdays 6:30-8pm
Venturers ages 14,15,16,17, & Rovers ages 18-26, none at moment, please contact us through Facebook for more information.
The hall is great for kids parties, family gatherings and meetings. Upstairs is wheelchair accessible with an outdoor ramp and accessible bathroom . It will hold 100 people. Chairs and tables are available. Downstairs has a kitchen, bathroom and gathering area. We have two meeting rooms downstairs, but they are currently rented out. Cost is $95 per rental. There is no smoking or alcohol on the property.
Mary Jane Reid coordinates these rentals. Please contact her by calling the Scout Hall at 705-687-4260 and leave a message. Mary Jane will return your call within a couple of days.
Scouting is a wonderful organization to volunteer for. We have an experienced group of adults who work hard to bring the program to the youth of Gravenhurst. Obviously some roles work directly with kids. These roles involve interviews, police record checks and training. Some roles support those who work with those kids. Your time is valuable and maybe you only have time for one project, one fund raiser, or a minor supporting role, or perhaps you can do more. We will take any level of involvement you are willing to give.
Our current Volunteer roles are:
Beaver Leaders
Cub Leaders
Scout Leaders
Treasurer
Social media person
Hall maintenance
Quartermaster
