Distance Learning (Online Orientation) - Hand Washing in a Healthcare Setting

About this course:
This hand hygiene distance and blended learning training program highlights key issues of hand washing techniques within a healthcare setting and offers compliance-based improvements that are evidence-based and align with Joint Commission, CDC, WHO, and HCA Healthcare Policy Stat standards. This training is mandatory for all employees within a hospital setting to complete within 8 weeks or less. This hand hygiene training course includes weekly webinars, case studies, interactive activities, discussions, and quizzes to reinforce hand hygiene content, standards, and procedures within a healthcare setting. When I was designing this training program, I implemented instructional design best practices for a distance learning environment, adapted from content Teaching and Learning at a Distance (Simonson, Zvacek, and Smaldino, 2019). The instructional design also includes resource and research articles from the CDC and WHO, which serve as resources for learners to utilize throughout the training program and during their daily work. This training program emphasizes how a blended distance learning model can elevate and standardize corporate-wide training programs to offer evidence-based content and promote more flexibility for adult learners. Therefore, a distant learning model offers flexibility, engagement, and real-world experiences that lead to creating a safe and healthier patient care environment.
Why I Selected This Course for My Academic Portfolio:
I selected this hand hygiene training program for my capstone portfolio because it represents the intersection of instructional design, regulatory compliance, and healthcare operations, which is relevant to my professional career. This project demonstrates my ability to design a large-scale, evidence-based training solution that aligns with national regulatory standards, including CDC, WHO, Joint Commission, and internal HCA Healthcare policy requirements.

The site explains the medical seriousness of celiac disease, clarifies the difference between gluten-free and wheat-free, cross-contact versus cross-contamination, and outlines practical strategies to prevent gluten cross-contact through proper storage, cleaning, and equipment use. It also emphasizes transparent communication with shared equipment. Overall, the resource serves as a practical guide to increase awareness, improve the quality of life for folks with Celiac Disease, and support individuals who require strict gluten avoidance in their diet.
