To provide a safe, inclusive, accessible and affordable space for our community and neighboring communities to gather and engage in community building activities, regardless of one's race, gender, faith or physical limitations.
The hall has served as a shipping office, fire station, Women’s Christian Temperance Union meeting place, and a community hall since it was first constructed in the early 1800’s.
Built in 1820 by Joseph Shaw – operated as a store until 1830.
John and George Mills (ship builders) owned and operated the building as a store from 1855 – 1915.
Sep 16, 1926, it was purchased from HT Amberman by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union, and was opened as a community Hall for the first time.
Dec 6, 1928, a fire at an adjacent store owned by W.A Piggot & Miss Bernasconi spread to the hall and it was almost destroyed beyond repair.
Jul 4, 1929, the hall was rebuilt, painted white and re-opened as a community hall.
1930’s and 1940’s the Sons of Temperance met on the 2nd floor regularly.
