Members of the garden are assigned a Household Plot in exchange for signing the membership agreement and paying a membership fee of $60/year. Gardeners who join GPCG gain more than access to a 10' x 3' plot of land. Water, compost for soil amendment, and tools and supplies for maintaining the pathways and other garden infrastructure are paid for by membership fees. From roughly March through the first fall freeze, gardeners take turns hosting work parties where they keep up the garden, work in their own plots, and exchange seeds, plants, and knowledge.
The garden has 25 HH Plots, all of which are spoken for in the 2022 garden year. All of the HH plots are currently in use by members.
We welcome inquiries about garden membership, so if you're interested in a plot, do reach out! The garden's membership coordinator will keep a waiting list. Contact us at contact@grantparkcommunitygarden.com or use the Contact Page to inquire.
In exchange for a Household (HH) plot, members of the garden agree to:
Pay a $60 non-refundable annual fee (Feb 1-Jan.31).
Attend a workday/orientation.
Host at least one work party/year.
Become a Steward for one of the tasks needed to make the garden a success.
Maintain their HH plot using organic methods.
Work a minimum of 3 hours per month in the community areas or projects of the garden. This can be accomplished during scheduled monthly work parties or on your own times.
Record their work in the Garden Calendar.
Notify the HH Plot Coordinator if they are no longer able to tend their plot; will be absent for a long period of time; or have asked a friend to tend their plot.
Strive to be helpful to their fellow gardeners.
Revocation of HH plot: If your plot goes clearly untended & overgrown or you have not taken responsibility for your Stewardship for 2 months, you will be sent a first notice (by email) that your plot may be reassigned. If there is no improvement within 2 weeks from first email, then a second notice will be sent to you by email. If after one week from second notice no arrangements or progress has been made the plot may be reassigned. No refunds will be paid.
