Recursos de verano

Practica y aprende

If you want to practice your Spanish during the summer, you can click on the following links by level. Please, if you do, use it. There's limited space, so try to use. These resources will help you prepare and expand on what you already know.

IF you decide to log in, you will work at your own pace, I will not grade or monitor your progress, that said, it's always good to use practical strategies into your practice: take notes, repeat aloud, use the dictionary when unsure of the meaning, etc.

Lee

This list contains online resources of short stories or books you can read based on your level. Know that even the basic ones will be a challenge, because they are written for natives at different levels of their own linguistic development. Don't worry if you don't understand everything, but try to read aloud (so you can practice your pronunciation), and try to read it to understand. Re-reading is a good strategy. As usual, use the dictionary to expand your knowledge, but remember that a word has multiple meanings, so read the different uses by scrolling down (wordreference.com)

Escucha

The following is a compilation of things I have either read, used, or encountered in my own learning. That said, some of them can be challenging, and difficult, or simply not your cup of tea :D. Feel free to explore, the writers listed below are part of a long standing literary tradition of an amalgam of cultures that encompass the Spanish speaking world. And, they are some of my favorites. I will keep adding more as I go.

Sobre la raza, la equidad y la justicia

Mira

When recommending movies and shows, I'm cognizant of who my audience is. Since, you are in High School or College bound, I will say this: Consult with your family, no family is alike. Practice your research skills by looking at the rating, but also, by googling "las mejores series (shows) o películas (movies) españolas/argentinas/cubanas/mexicanas/costarricenses/nicaragüenses, uruguayas, chilenas, etc.

One show that I like is El ministerio del tiempo because it goes over a lot of Spanish history like Dr.Who would, however, it's not exactly the same, it's very Spanish. I don't like Narcos, because of the stigma it produces on Colombian people, I had to live growing up enduring the "not so cute" comments of people, because my family is from Colombia, and the effect that Pablo Escobar had in country itself, that said, I respect that you might like it, but know Colombia is soooooo much more, and I hope you are open minded enough to some day explore it yourself. Do try to avoid "La esclava blanca" I can't even begin to tell you what's wrong with that show. To find the ratings of the shows, you can use IMDv TV.
