A Catalog With Nothing For Sale
I took these photos while traveling in the American West; snapshots made with a phone while walking around after coffee. In small towns they don't call a car or truck vintage -- it's just old. Because things don't rust out, folks keep them going.
These photos are influenced by Bernd and Hilla Becher, along with Richard Avedon's In the American West. Their photos reminded me of old industrial catalogs; Proto hand tools; a pair of pliers, or a set of sockets floating on a page. I've been influenced, but their subjects are more abstracted. In some of my photos, the background (the shape of the shadows and the surface of the road) becomes as important as the subject.
