Evaluating Algebraic Expressions
This week we are learning to evaluate algebraic expressions. Students are given one or two-step expressions with one variable, and given the value of the variable. They must replace the variable in the expression with the given value and follow order of operations to solve. A large emphasis is put on showing your work for every single step, as this sets a foundational skill that will serve them well in future math courses (where they are solving much more complex expressions and equations).
I ask them to follow the following steps when evaluating any type of expression:
1) re-write the expression
2) write the value of the variable
3) replace the variable with the given value and solve by following order of operations (making sure to show one-step at a time).

Patterns and Relationships in Expressions, Tables, and Graphs
The next topic we are exploring and identifying patterns and relationships (relations) in patterns. We will be exploring patterns and relations in images, table of values, and graphs.
Here's some extra resources:
Here is a really cool TEDTalk about the magic of patterns
Here's a great website that discusses Pascal's Triangle.
Here is some practice exploring and identifying patterns and writing pattern rules & Answers
Here is a quick Khan Academy lesson on working with tables of values, expressions, and graphs
