Vision and Mission

Our vision is to create a society where grandmothers raising grandchildren in Ahero are supported with dignity and care, and where every child in their care grows up in a nurturing environment. We envision a future where these grandmothers are not only recognized for their resilience but are also equipped with the tools and resources to build a better future for their families.

Our mission is to empower and support grandmothers in Ahero, Kenya, who are raising their grandchildren by providing access to resources, emotional support, and educational opportunities. We strive to build a community where these grandmothers are valued, and their caregiving efforts are acknowledged, ensuring both grandmothers and grandchildren thrive together.

Core values

Core values are central guiding principles which are the basic and should not be violated in the conduct of this project. Grandmothers raising grandchildren's core values which are underpinned by our consitution include:

Integrity, honesty and accountability; Grandmothers raising grandchildren will integrate good governance at all levels. We strive to serve the most vulnerable groups in an honest, trustworthy and trasparent manner. The staff shall give their best to community building by exhibiting high standards of integrity
Professionalism, teamwork and excellence: GrG values effective teamwork, networking and collaboration when delivering services to the most needy in the society. The management will suport and facilitate teamwork by recognizing both team and individual effort, output, continuous learning, accepting change and serving the poor porfessionally. We strive to attain the highest standards in all that we do.
Inclusiveness: we strive to ensure effective children participation and feeling connected to others and the society, belief that they have choices about future and feeling of being positive and comfortable with their own destiny.

Founders

Our initiative was founded by a passionate group of grandmothers and community leaders who saw the need for organized support for grandmothers raising grandchildren in Ahero. The founders brought together diverse skills and experiences to create a sustainable support system for families in need.

Leadership team

Ms. Emaculate Odero - Program Manager

She manages the implementation of community programs, workshops andresourcers for grandmothers and grandchildren

Mr. Moses Warah- Communty Outreach Coordinator

He focuses on raising awareness about the organization's work, forging partnership and engaging the wider community in support.

Ms. Riana Awuor - Finance and Resource Manager

Responsible for managing the organization's finances, fundraising efforts and ensuring resources are allocated appropriately.

Ms. Matilde Costa - Nutrition Resource Mobilizer

Mobilizing resources for nutrition related projects and initiatives, building partnership with relevant stakeholders, including government bodies, corporate partners and other NGOs, advising on strategic planning and funding opportunities for nutrition programs, ensuring sustainability in the implementation of nutrition-focused activities for nutrition programs, ensuring sustainability in the implementation of nutrition -focused activities and interventions and contributing to the overall governance and direction of the organization's nutrition related work.

Ms. Christine Achieng Olale - Chairperson

She oversees the operations and strategic direction of the organization, ensuring alignment with the mission and vision.

Ms. Pearlnerry Awuor- GBV Volunteer Field Officer

She is responsible for leading, coordinating, and implementing activities that address and prevent gender-based violence within communities served by GRG. She ensures that grandmothers, especially those raising grandchildren, and other vulnerable groups are protected, supported, and empowered through advocacy, education, case management, and referral services.

What we do

At Grandmothers Raising Grandchildren, we offer a platform for emotional support, education, and advocacy. We assist in connecting grandmothers with vital resources, such as food, healthcare, and legal assistance, ensuring that the well-being of both the grandmothers and their grandchildren is prioritized. We hold regular meetings for sharing experiences, learning new parenting techniques, and empowering one another. Additionally, we advocate for policies that address the unique needs of grandmothers raising grandchildren, ensuring they have access to the resources they deserve.

We also organize community outreach programs to raise awareness about the challenges faced by grandmothers, aiming to create a more supportive environment for all families in Ahero.
