Pictures of my GXP

I'm currently writing this page in September 2022 and I have the car listed for sale on Facebook, Nextdoor, and Ebay. These are just a few of my favorite images of my 2006 Grand Prix GXP with under 84,000 miles, as well as some recent photos of how it currently looks (with the parking garage accident's damage visible).

Update: I sold the car in October 2022.

May 2022

Arriving at the dealership for them to install one of the last matching sets of new old stock GXP front lower control arms on the car left in the country.

June 30, 2019

I think this is my favorite photo of my GXP I've ever taken. I was parked in front of a friend's house on the weekend. It was perfect lighting for the hue of the paint to be my favorite.

September 11, 2021

The salesman from the dealership that I bought my GXP from in 2009 happened to be at the poker run before Pontiac Southern Nationals so I got a photo with him.

September 11, 2021

This was one of the few shots at Pontiac Southern Nationals that I took of the car. I was too busy looking at other people's beautiful cars to pay attention to mine.

I won 1st place in the 2000 and newer vehicle category.

The engine bay during judging.

The photos below are all from when I had finished waxing the car the night before Pontiac Southern Nationals in 2021. I didn't want to individually caption them... The previous several nights I fully vacuumed, washed, and detailed the entire car.

This image (to most car guys) probably speaks more loudly for how well I've cared for this car than any other pic. This is the original hood liner... NOT a replacement.

I had removed the license plates to wax under them.

I'll be removing my old business emblems from the car before selling it. They were attached with 3M tape.

Same day as Pontiac Southern Nationals, except this is after the event, and after visiting ItalianCarFest in Grapevine, so I stopped in front of the lake and took a few shots of my winning car.

September 17, 2021

Went grocery shopping at night, and took what I think is a nice photo of my still pretty-clean GXP

I don't remember what year this was, but it was a while back since I still have my front window tint in the pic. This was when I had about 2 shopping carts worth of food from Sam's Club in the trunk and my mom sitting in the passenger seat.

I don't remember the exact date I took this pic, but I took it during my last oil change. There's not an oil change place, car service shop, dealership, etc. where my car doesn't get raving compliments about how great of condition I've kept it in. There's no rust and I have always garaged it.

Here's a few random videos over the past year or so. I didn't often take videos, but I do have some.

I almost forgot to include pictures of the interior and engine bay from preparing my GXP for Pontiac Southern Nationals. These pictures are from before I detailed and waxed the exterior of the car.

I had just cleaned the suede and leather. Don't misunderstand these images to think the seats are stained... because they are not... they are just moist in the photos from me having just finished cleaning them.

Okay, here are the most recent photos of the car.

August 26, 2022

I was in an unfamiliar parking garage and backing out. I had no idea there was a concrete pillar in my blind spot as I was turning out of the parking spot. I scraped on it. Photo I took when I got home.

August 26, 2022

This it what it looked like after washing the car at home. I epoxied the chunk missing from the tail light back on a couple days later, just because I picked up the piece when it happened and didn't want to throw it away.

While waiting for the insurance check to arrive to get the bodywork fixed, bad luck came for me again. I lost 1st gear while driving to work. I was able to drive in 2nd and 3rd easily, and park in the parking garage. I went to leave work, backed out of the spot, and 1st and 2nd wouldn't engage. I managed to get one of them to engage enough to get me to the ramp, I rolled down it, and rolled fast enough to shift into 3rd, and I drove out. I got to a 4-way stop, and... I couldn't leave the stop sign. A police officer happened to be at one of those stop signs, she called for backup, and they helped guide me as I reversed into a parking lot down the street. Which is where I got towed from.

September 6, 2022

I rode with the tow truck driver to Sewell Buick GMC to have them look at the car and provide me a loaner car. This was the only time this car has ever had to be towed. Sewell was busy and needed several days to work my GXP into their schedule, so I had to wait. They discovered a piece of the forward apply band broken off and stuck to the magnet in the transmission fluid pan. That's why I lost 1st and 2nd gear.

September 15, 2022

During my time away from my GXP, I decided that it was time to let it go. My daily work commute was now 7 times more daily miles than the previous 13 years (22 miles daily instead of only 3), and I decided it was time to put money toward a new car instead of fixing this one. So I declined having Sewell fix it and had it towed home, which is where it has sat since September 15th.

Keep in mind, that in all of these photos, the car is covered in pollen from being at the dealership, and I had not given the car its yearly waxing yet.

I mentioned this in my "for sale" ad, but not here. The two marks on the rear bumper are from 2009 when someone at a bar in a pickup truck with the tow hitch (not attached) backed into my car when they were leaving. Their tow hitch thing left a square mark. I repaired the marks the best I could back then and used GM touch up paint to fill in the marks. They are minor and if you haven't noticed them in the other pics, it's because they are just that minor.

I did not clean the interior... this is just how clean I kept it and it's been a few months since I have vacuumed it.

No tears in the leather... just cracks from sitting on it. I regularly moisturize the leather with Meguiar's leather products.

All GXPs had turned aluminum gauges, designed to relate to the 2nd gen Trans Ams that had them. (That's also why GXPs have front fender vents).

Unlike most other Grand Prixs, I still have all of my paint on my buttons. I assume it's because I wash my hands so often and never eat in the car.

The headliner is still in good shape. I've really tried hard (and spent money) to try to keep this car in as good of condition as possible.

This is the 3 inch binder full of every service, repair, etc. the car has ever had. I'm not weird enough to keep gasoline receipts, but I do have just about everything else you can imagine.

Other old pics

January 6, 2009

The day I bought my GXP. It was raining.

February 27, 2010

I decided I better get pictures of my GXP with the Pontiac sign before it got removed from the dealership.

I participated in a car show at the dealership in 2010 and they had this used Pontiac G8 GT in Pacific Slate Metallic. I pulled up next to it for some color comparison photos.

I actually drove a G8 GT before buying my Grand Prix GXP and I just didn't like it as much. It was boring, and the A-pillar on the windshield required the driver to lean forward and backward to see around it too often (it was annoying).
