Sometimes you have words in your sentence that can confuse you. An example of this would be something like, "The boys in Mrs. Dunn's class run on the playground." In this case, the word class is closer to the predicate (run) than the word boys. BUT...boys is actually the subject of the sentence! Getting down to the BAREBONES of your sentence will help. Who is the sentence about? Boys. What are they doing? They're running. Presto! Subject and subject and predicate identified!
Here's a fun fact for the present tense: Most of the time, if the subject has an "s" at the end, the verb doesn't. If the subject doesn't have an "s" at the end, the verb probably should.
