The PREDICATE of a sentence tells what the subject is doing. It is marked with a symbol resembling four mountains. These four mountains are meant to remind us of the four predicate expanders (where, how, when, and why).
example:
Mr. Morton picks flowers for his girlfriend.
In this sentence, the subject of the sentence is Mr. Morton. What is he doing? He's picking flowers! So picks is the predicate of this sentence. You'd mark it like this:
