What are graduation projects?
The School District of Jenkintown requires a culminating graduation project. The strategic plan for the district requires implementation of a “hands-on, service-based learning requirement as a graduation requirement.” Therefore, all students are required to complete 30 hours* of community service and present about their experience to a panel of judges during either their junior or senior year.
Frequently Asked Questions
Help! Where do I start?!
Check out the STEPS page on this website (click here)
If you are still confused or have any further questions, contact Mrs. Dewees (room D213, deweesa@jtowndrakes.org)
How many hours do I need to complete and what is the deadline?
You need to complete 30 hours
Ideally, these should be complete by the START of your senior year.
Be prepared to turn in your log sheet at the end of August of your Senior year.
When can I start?
ASAP! Starting sooner will ensure that you finish your hours on time
However, no hours that were completed prior to your freshman year can count towards your graduation project.
Can I use my 5 hours of community service from Health Class?
Yes, of course!
Just make sure you bring your service log and get it signed!
I transfered to Jenkintown, do I still need to complete hours?
Here are the guidelines for transfers:
If you transfer here in 9th grade, you need to complete: 30 hours
If you transfer here in 10th grade, you need to complete: 20 hours
If you transfer here in 11th grade, you need to complete: 10 hours
If you transfer here in 12th grade, you WILL NOT be required to complete any service hours.
