WEEK 2 27 March - 3 April

Measurements

Read everything you will do for the week before you start

LESSON 1

Read and learn it off

The metric system is used to measure the length, weight or volume of an object. Length is measured in millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m) or kilometres (km).

  • 1 cm = 10 mm
  • 1 m = 100 cm
  • 1 km = 1000 m
  • 1 cm is about the width of a staple
  • 1 m is about the width of a single bed

Weight is measured in grams (g) and kilograms (kg). Volume is measured in millilitres (ml) and litres (l).

  • 1 kg = 1000 g
  • 1 l = 1000 mls
  • 1 kg is the weight of seven apples
  • 1 l is the volume of a carton of orange juice

YOUR WORK

1.Study the above units of measurement. when you are ready take the test in the form below

2.Fill out the form and submit

3. Now go to page 41 in your math Workbook and complete the page

Lesson 2

What is analogue and digital time?

There are 24 hours in one day, but the day can be measured by splitting it into two halves. The first 12 hours of the day - from midnight to midday - are called AM, and the next twelve hours are called PM.

Time has various units of measurement, eg seconds, hours, days. Knowing how to measure time is useful as it helps you work out when your favourite TV show is on, or how many days there are in a month.

Copy and complete the following table, then complete your answers.

Days, months and years

Use this rhyme to help you remember how many days there are in each month:

30 days has September,

April, June and November.

All the rest have 31 ,

Except February alone,

Which has 28 days clear,

And 29 in each leap year.

Questions

  1. If March 05 is a Tuesday, what day is the April 21 in the same year?
  2. How many Saturdays in April if 1 is a Sunday
  3. If Jane was born on February 29 When will her next birthday be

Lessons for Week 1

Lesson 3 (When doing your work, do not use pages and pages try and fit everything close together so sending it to me is easier)

25 March

Area

Let us do some review

Remember

Area = Length x Width

= l x w

= Area (Answer)

Some examples

Each time you will MULTIPLY the Length and the Width

  1. The Math Textbook L = 15 cm W = 25 cm 15cm x 25cm = ?
  2. The Window L = 50 cm W = 30 cm
  3. The Table L = 2m W = 1m
  4. The eraser L = 4 cm W = 2 cm
  5. The ruler L = 30 cm W = 4 cm
  6. Now look around you at home and Measure the length and width of the face of at least 10 objects and calculate the Area

7. Sketch as many figures as possible that have an Area of 8 cm square Answer 8x1 4x2 1x8 2x4

8. Of 12 cm square Answer 12 x1 6x2 4x3 1x12 2x6 3x4

9. Of 18 cm square Answer 18x1 6x3 9x2 1x18 3x6 2x9

10. Of 24 cm square
