SENSE OF SELF

Through my practice, the over arching theme of inner thought and emotion is very much evident. an exploration of identity through spirituality, symbolism, colour and connection with mother nature. Heavily intuitive mark making, painting and process, which can be swayed by the themes I want to cover in each work.

LOVER YOU SHOULD'VE COME OVER (top left to right)

LOVER DON'T LET ME DOWN (bottom left to right)

Intuitive works progressed into an emotive series dealing with themes of grief and growth, accompanied by heavy imagery of skeletal poses and spiritual symbolism & text.

SENESE OF SELF

Throughout this project, I’ve trialled different mediums separately and together, figuring out textures that align with my motifs and intuitive mark making. Using this project, I’ve found out my weaknesses and strengths through my art and personal life, and how they always coincide.

Spending time in nature has heavily influenced my practice as well as my personal life. The way we treat mother earth and the way we can interact and challenge in a healthy medium. Using my main disciple, drawing, to expand on these ideas as a starting point, then intuitive mark making, creating something on a larger scale. Using art forms to convey a sense of one's self expressing emotion and trauma, a way of healing and releasing ideals of a better way of thinking and mind-set. Pulling on senses of spirituality through a mixed medium approach.

My painting above, ‘What Once Was’ highlights the importance of having that person and feeling that warmth, even though individually the figures are struggling to navigate the coldness they each feel inside. Heavy, dense emotions that we try to overcome together, but sometimes can’t. The title Sense Of Self, is more so an insider on the mental struggles of trying to balance life and using art as an escape, the raw true emotion that shines through, subjectively my work is colourful, playful, when in reality it’s a lot more complex to the naked eye.

The process of using a mix medium is more so heavily acrylic paint based, while making my own gesso to prime the canvas, to create more texture and depth to the canvas. The inclusion of small symbolism, whether it be colour, items, marks, etc. Using life drawing poses to help create a sense of body to each piece. My field research involves attending local exhibitions in Geelong, Surfcoast and Melbourne, while also spending time in nature down the coast or in the bush. While collating different texts and books of the artists I’m most inspired by, such as Ben Quilty, Terry Urban, Del Kathryn Barton, Ai Weiwei, etc…

LOST

Lost is about being in a time of uncertainty that’s lasted for over a year, trying to get over trauma and accepting the better things in life. The people you surround yourself with, and how it can be detrimental to your own mental health. Finding yourself and finding your style, while finding your people and what makes you happy. Life is beautiful and not promised.

CLUSTERFUCK

Using old artworks and reworking them onto something new. The zodiacs are each complex and similar, the way we interact and bond with each other through our associations of each sign. Astrology isn’t something to rely on but it helps us better understand traits and lessons

ELEMENTAL

an ode to how the elements and moon phases influence our personalities and everyday life.

  • Air (Gemini, Libra & Aquarius): air represents mental agility and analytical capabilities

  • Fire (Aries, leo & Sagittarius): fire represents passion and vigor

  • Earth (Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn): earth represents grounded tenacity

  • Water (cancer, Scorpio & pisces): water represents emotional capabilities

DEVINE FEMININE

Feminine expression is something I’ve been trying to draw on in my personal practice. The past couple of years I’ve been taking a deep look at my self and started to finally do what’s right for me. Developing skills and practices to help further me in life as well as help myself through traumatic moments. Shedding my skin like a snake, Luna moths change constantly, and so do we as we go through our lives. Another common luna moth symbolism is luck, trying to draw on the things I’m grateful for

LOVERS DANCE

the warmth and joy you feel with your person, doing something together that makes you feel alive while enjoying each other’s company. life’s simplest pleasures, enjoying every small moment of happiness

BIG THREE

for a while I’ve been doing astrology and spiritual based pieces, and I’ve wanted to convey some of my own birth chart into my art. That being said, this piece displays my big three, Libra sun and moon, Aquarius rising. Air dominated overall. The skeleton holding its hands up, almost like a scale (libras symbol) with the sun and moon surrounding, while the water pouring above represents the water barer, Aquarius . This painting loosely Inspired by ‘Libra’ by Jake Baddeley.

SPIRTIUAL AWAKENING

through my journey of self discovery, spirituality has been a large portion of it. understanding different practices and symbolism in each practice has been a major thing. learning about palmistry and astrology to a deeper level, plant and herb properties, uses and qualities, & so much more. while exhibiting these aspects, colour theory comes into play, to tie in those intentions and emotions, while incorporating what I see as my spirit animal, the dragonfly. this symbolises transformation, courage, adaptation, spiritual awakening and self realisation (they also mean goodluck!)

THE THREE GRACES

This painting shows the symbol of the waxing, full and waning moon, representing the aspects of Maiden, Mother, and Crone, also of the divine feminine, the goddess. It is often associated with intuition, empathy, and nurturing abilities. Influenced by the south node which rules over your gifts and past life, while your north node rules where you are going in your life, your destiny. Surrounding the skeletons is the zodiac wheel, which determines an aspect of what your south and north nodes are
