ARTIST BIO

My name is Gracie Wright, I specialise in mediums such as drawing, painting, film photography, and videography, dealing with themes of culturally created nostalgia, thoughts & emotion with the human psyche, and spiritual psychedelia & memories. Currently studying a BA of Fine Arts at RMIT University, specializing in drawing. Co-Founder of 'Under The Jam Tree' Artist management and Curation.

Using different mediums to hover around aspects of national identity through personalized content, appropriation of 1970’s psychedelic aesthetics, creating a sense of culturally created nostalgia, and pulling on thoughts & emotions of the human psyche. Leaning into personal experiences of spirituality and sense of self, growth and life's vices and virtues.

Spending time in nature has heavily influenced my practice as well as my personal life. The way we treat mother earth and the way we can interact and challenge in a healthy medium. Using my main disciple, drawing, to expand on these ideas as a starting point, then intuitive mark making, creating something on a larger scale. Using art forms to convey a sense of one's self expressing emotion and trauma, a way of healing and releasing ideals of a better way of thinking and mind-set. Pulling on senses of spirituality through a mixed medium approach.

My field research involves attending local exhibitions in Geelong, Surfcoast and Melbourne, while also spending time in nature down the coast or in the bush. While collating different texts and books of the artists im most inspired by, such as Ben Quilty, Terry Urban, Del Kathryn Barton, Ai Weiwei, etc…
