Healthy Cookbooks for Food Pantries
Healthy Cookbooks for Food Pantries
Hello, my name is Grace Smith I am an Ambassador level Girl Scout from the Girl Scout Hornets Nest Council in North Carolina. This website was created to create sustainability and outreach for my Gold Award project. My Gold Award project in question looked to address the systemic issue of ill dietary practice amongst lower socio-economic groups and how it relates to higher instances of dietary-related illnesses amongst this group. To address this I created a cookbook filled with easy recipes that employ minimal tools, steps, and ingredients to make them more practical for those who may utilize food pantries. On top of this, I directly tailored it to many of the items that my local food pantry, Cooperative Christian Ministries, provides to their patrons. Locally there is a large Spanish-speaking population that uses the food pantries, so I also translated the cookbook. Initially, I fundraised to professionally print 250 copies of the English and 250 copies of the Spanish versions of the cookbook. This website with the attached PDF files of the cookbook in both languages will hopefully act as a way to allow for more copies of the cookbook to be printed after the initial supply run out as well as to make my cookbook accessible to anyone.
