First week without Shawna or Clara. :,) I'm being really strong about it obvi but I do miss them. Anyways, this Monday I started off by helping Emlyn go through papers she found, with snail parasite prevalence survey data (say that 3 times fast sheesh). We then compiled everything we found into a big excel sheet. She also showed me a few tricks of the trade so now I'm an Excel mafia boss. After that we tried to go out kayaking to get some more mud crabs. However, we almost got electrocuted the second we went out. I know right, this is like the 12th time this summer I've almost been murdered on the water. After the storm passed, we went back out and collected some more suckers. When we got back I just put them in the wet lab with a bubbler and called it a day. Later in the evening some of the other interns invited me over for a little pizza night. So as you can see, I am clearly thriving on my own.
I was riding solo this fine Tuesday (Emlyn was off island). I went in kind of late this morning because no one could stop me. I processed all the crabs we collected yesterday, but only found a few infected (:/). After that I tried to teach myself some R, but gave up because I was hungry. After a quick lunch and pump sesh I went out to Oakdale creek to try to get some more infected crabs. I found a few, but lemme tell you it was slim pickings. Afterrrr that I went to the beach for a little before hitting up the weekly seminar. This is the third week I've been given a shoutout and been included in the acknowledgments and I think it's going to my head.

Jekyll Island side quest
On this dandy Wednesday I zoomed with Shelby and Emlyn to go over my poster plans for the upcoming symposium. After that I tethered 42 of our infected and uninfected europanoupi to get ready to put them out later at low tide. I also worked a little bit on my poster and hope to analyze my data tomorrow. At low tide we went out to the UGAMI site and placed all the tethered crabs. We're going to collect them tomorrow around 6 am :). After a little swim and dinner I gave my girl Megan a little ring (shoutout).
On Thursday, I woke up bright and early to go pull our crabs from the UGAMI site. I was very tired but we got the job done. After that I made some banana choco chip pancakes and took a nap. When I came back in Emlyn showed me some R wizardy and I leveled up my coding game. I did a little Chi-squared test on my marsh edge consumption data and found a statistical significance in the mudcrab runs (score). I also whipped up some stacked bar graphs using my new skills and I think they look pretty nice. When I finished slaying R I released all the panopeus mud crabs and tried to locate some more of our tethers that we couldn't find this morning. Later in the evening I had a little surf sesh with some other interns and had a Cody Maverick moment (I sucked).
I think someone is flirting with me :3
he's just happy to be here
nice sunset 10/10
On Friday, I continued to work on my poster and played around with some more stuff in R. I also did another look through of the flow through tank for rouge snails and mud crabs. Once I was able to gather as many of those guys as I could find I released them by the pump dock. I then put all the leftover infected crabs into a cage and put them in the flow through tank. I also put all the other uninfected leftover crabs in the flow through tank itself so we can track have fast loxo spreads through the crabs. I also would like my followers to know that I am very brave and freed a mouse I found in my room later that evening.
