My summer interning at the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Long Term Ecological Research Site

My Research

I worked with Dr. Emlyn Resetarits and Dr. Shelby Ziegler on various research projects in the GCE site. I helped study how parasites influence the role of the keystone grazer, Ilyanassa obsoleta, on tidal mudflats. In addition to this, I also examined how estuarine consumer communities are affected by marsh edge disturbance. I was able to work in the field and in the GCE’s various wet and dry labs.

Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER Site

The Georgia Coastal Ecosystems Long Term Ecological Site  was established in 2000 by the by the National Science Foundation. The study area includes three sounds off the coast if Georgia and includes upland, intertidal, and submerged habitats. The goal of this site is to understand how these ecosystems function and change over time, including how they might be affected by climate change and human activity.
