It has come to our attention that some participants are being contacted by third parties to book their accommodation for GPOTS. These third parties are in no way affiliated to the University of Iowa or working on behalf of the organizers.
Participants who requested residence hall accommodation will be contacted directly by the organizers with a confirmation of their accommodation arrangements (no payment is required).
We have reserved a block of rooms at the Hotel Hilton Garden Inn.
We have also reserved a block of rooms at a University residence hall, Daum Hall. If you will be requesting accommodation at the residence halls, please mark this when submitting your registration form. Food is not included, but all participants (regardless of their accommodation) can buy food (at their own expense) in the dining halls.
Please be advised that Daum Hall does not offer parking. The two closest parking spaces (one and two blocks away, respectively) are the Pappajohn Parking Garage and the IMU Parking Ramp. You can also find nearby parking at Capitol Street Parking Ramp (220 South Capitol street) and Tower Place and Parking (1 South Gilbert street).
The cost of accommodation in the University residence hall, Daum Hall, is covered by the organization for the participants that requested residence hall accommodation in their registration form. If there is a change in your intent to stay at the residence hall, please inform us by the registration deadline of May 5.
Participants staying in the residence hall will need to check in at the Daum Hall desk. Check-in must be done between 3 PM and 12 Midnight and check-out must be before 12 Noon.
Accommodation covers 5 nights with check-in on May 25 and check-out on May 30. Residents will be given a prox card so they can access the locked door 24 hours a day between the time they check in (received the prox card) and the time they check out (turn in the prox card). Accommodation includes linen provided weekly and trash removal twice a week. Towels are not provided by the residence hall, don't forget to pack a towel.
The Daum Hall desk will be staffed from 7 AM to 12 Midnight and front doors to the building will be open from 7 AM to 10 PM. If they arrive after 10 PM, they can push the call box button, and the desk staff can let them in. After Midnight, participants can push the call box button to contact the on-call staff, but that is just for the case of emergencies. The on-call staff do not have the ability to check in residents to the building.
