The 2026 Great Plains Operator Theory Symposium (GPOTS) will be held at the University of Iowa from May 26 through May 30, 2026. Founded in 1981, GPOTS has become the largest annual national conference in operator algebras and operator theory in the United States, attracting approximately 100–150 participants and maintaining a strong international presence. The 2026 program will address a broad range of topics, including C*-algebras, von Neumann algebras, operator theory and spaces, non-commutative geometry, and quantum information theory, with substantial connections to dynamical systems, logic, group theory, ring theory, and mathematical physics. Alongside plenary lectures by leading experts, the symposium will feature numerous contributed talks, offering postdoctoral researchers, early-career faculty, and graduate students a prominent forum to present their work.
Operator algebras and operator theory remain central and rapidly evolving areas of mathematical research, with deep interdisciplinary influence. GPOTS 2026 will continue its long-standing role in fostering interaction between established researchers and emerging scholars, supporting the dissemination of new results and encouraging collaboration across career stages. A significant portion of the program and proposed support is directed toward early-career participants, ensuring ample opportunities for visibility, professional development, and engagement with current research directions. Through this structure, GPOTS 2026 aims to sustain the vitality of the field and contribute to the training and advancement of the next generation of researchers.
