ACTIVITIES & sub-Committee's

Activity Nights - Get involved
The PTA sponsors Activity Nights that are usually held twice a year including a DJ, dancing, karaoke, and other activities. Volunteers help provide refreshments, and/or chaperones.
PTA Membership - Current Chair Jessie Reamer - Incoming Chair - Danielle Churchill
Encourage meaningful membership signup to meet the requirement of the unit. Develop and support events where membership drives can add benefit. Create and drive social media campaigns, and work with communications to create interesting messages across all outlets to current and potential stakeholders.
Arts-In-Education - Current Chair Katie O'Laughlin - Incoming Chairs - Takeyce Walter & Diane Nolan
Funds raised through the PTA from our annual fundraisers during the school year are used to arrange visits in-person and virtually from local and nationally known authors and performers, as well as supplement field trips and additional school programs for all grade levels.
Book Fair - Current Chair Lisa Casey-David
Book Fairs are held twice a year, once in the fall and again in the spring. Volunteers help out by assisting with book sales during the day or in the evening during the week-long sale. Sale dates are announced in school and on the PTA website.
Dodge Ball Night - Current Chair Sheila Clarke-Hanson (Get involved for the next school year)
The tournament is held in early March. Teams of 7 students per team participate. Volunteers are needed to supervise.
Holiday Shop - Current Chair Jenn Collazo (Get involved for the next school year)
Items (new and gently used) are collected from parents and the school community and are made available to students for purchase. Donations are received in the Gowana Main Office and the sale takes place in the auditorium during lunch periods. No item is tagged over $5. Volunteers help out by organizing gifts for sale, taking money or wrapping presents during the 2-day sale.
Hospitality - Current Chair Meryl Staats
This committee provides refreshments for a variety of PTA and/or school-sponsored events, including the “Welcome Back” breakfast for staff, Open House, Staff Appreciation and holiday luncheons, and various times throughout the year. Volunteers help by baking and providing supplies on one or more occasions; if it’s not convenient for you every time – no problem!
Communications - Current Chair Diane Nolan (Get involved for the next school year)
Volunteers help publicize upcoming events, programs or school activities throughout the year. Pictures can then be shared in the newsletter and/or website so Gowana and its students can be recognized positively in the press.
Reflections - Current Chair Jenn Collazo (Get involved for the next school year)
The Reflections Program is a National PTA-sponsored program. Volunteers help by distributing information, making posters, displaying entries and assisting in local level judging panels.
Scholarship Committee - Get involved
The Gowana PTA approves two scholarships to be awarded to graduating seniors. Parent members are needed to form a committee to select the award winners. Parent members will attend two meetings and review and score scholarship applications.
School Pictures - Current Chairs Jamie Ricciuti & Carly Audette
Each year, photographs of all students are taken for families to purchase and for use in the yearbook. Volunteers help out on picture day(s) by helping to organize the classes as they come in for their photos.
Shen Inventors - Get involved
This program encourages students to create and provide solutions to a problem of their own choosing and we help provide a showcase for their creative efforts. Inventions are displayed at the Shen Science Health and Discovery Night held at High School East each spring. Volunteers help coordinate meetings which familiarize the students with the rules and process of the program, make copies, and distribute information.
