Michelle, otherwise known as brocansky, has been teaching in higher education since 1999. In 2002, she fell madly in love with online teaching and it became her calling. Currently, Michelle serves the California Community College system as Faculty Mentor, Digital Innovation. She is also the author of Best Practices for Teaching with Emerging Technologies, a columnist for EdSurge, a contributor to the HumanizED podcast, and a lover of mini-dachshounds. Steve has been in teaching / public education since 1988. In 2013, he created 1st Person Seminars Higher Education Consulting, LLC to host professional learning seminars for teaching faculty. Active in the National Great Teachers Movement since 1997, he created the NGTM website in 2001 to help keep its practitioners connected. While most of his career was in the community college classroom as faculty/department chair, he has also served as a community college vice president, criminal investigator, and justice agency administrator.
Kay is a retired community college music instructor and talented musician. She has been active in the NC Great Teachers Seminars since 1998 and has staffed and/or coordinated many Great Seminars since that time. She has also been involved in National GT events over the years and is a leader in the live music industry in western NC.
Chuck is the father of two teenage girls, a biologist by training, and a potter at heart. He loves the outdoors (camping, hiking, swimming, and biking); making things with his hands using clay, wood, paper, and thread; and is a skilled Great Teachers practitioner. In his spare time, he teaches biology at McDowell Technical Community College.
Ellen recently retired from the NC Community College System after 35 years of teaching. She directed over 70 theater productions, taught communication at Central Carolina Community College, and now directs the North Carolina Great Teachers Seminar. She lives in Pittsboro with her husband and teenage son.
Andrew graduated from UNC-Charlotte in 2015 with a BS in Biology and is currently employed as a chemist at Labcorp, a sophisticated laboratory network with corporate headquarters in Burlington, NC. He has been a craft beer connoisseur for more than 3 years and has been to many of NC's breweries. In addition to assisting with seminar logistics, he will be conducting our GOTS Beer Tasting.
