Weekly Lessons

This website is intended as a supplemental resource, not a substitute, for the in-person Bible study classes offered by Rev. Spence. Although every classroom resource is provided on this website, nothing substitutes the group dynamic of studying the Word with others.

The study topics for each lesson of Jesus and The Gospels Four is divided into nine weekly lessons. Each weekly lesson’s online resources may have these components:

• a Scripture Summary written by Rev. Spence

• a reference hyperlink to the online Bible reading for that week’s lesson

• a link to a video recording of that week’s lesson (produced after the in-person weekly meeting)

• an introductory video from the BibleProject

Scripture Summary

Rev. Spence has written a corresponding summary for each of the four Gospels. Additionally, Rev. Spence has written an article to help understand the cultural, historical, and religious context for the Gospels.

The study of three of the four Gospels will span two weeks. The Gospel of Mark, the shortest book, will be studied during week two.

On each weekly lesson page, the Scripture Summary will be displayed for that week.

There are hyperlinks to view and download the Summaries in their entirety, not split for week by week lessons.

Online Bible Reference

Reading the Bible online is, of course, an option. This site will externally refer one to the Bible Gateway web-site, sending one to Scripture for that week. The Bible Gateway site offers many different versions and translations of the bible. 

With many Bible translations available, this website, by default, will refer one to two versions of the New Testament, the New International Version (NIV) and the Mounce Reverse Interlinear New Testament (MOUNCE), displayed in parallel. Old Testament references will refer one to the NIV translation and the Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB) for comparison.

All of the Bible Gateway translations are available and are easily selectable as desired. Feel free to explore and compare.

Video Lectures

During the nine week study of the Gospels, Rev. Spence records a separate recording of his weekly lecture. Each video is recorded after the in-person lessons and will be available for those who missed a meeting or would like to review one of the lessons. 

On each weekly lesson page is a hyperlink to that's weeks video recording. 

The BibleProject Videos

BibleProject is a nonprofit, crowdfunded organization that produces 100% free Bible videos, podcasts, blogs, classes, and educational Bible resources to help make the biblical story accessible to everyone everywhere. 

Brief introductory video for each of the Gospels from the BibleProject are referenced for each of the weekly lessons.
