Our Guiding Pillars
Our Guiding Pillars
Self-Care
We believe self-care is not a luxury; it is a lifeline. In a world that often demands more than it gives, we encourage women to prioritize their well-being unapologetically. Whether through rest, nourishment, mindfulness, or creative expression, self-care is an act of survival and self-respect. It is how we replenish our strength and protect our peace.
Connection
Healing begins when we reconnect with who we are and what we believe. Gorgeous Souls invites women to deepen their connection with their personal values, inner wisdom, and spiritual truths, whatever that may look like for them. Through guided practices, reflection, and dialogue, we support women in aligning their lives with what truly matters.
Community
We were never meant to heal alone. Our gatherings are a safe, welcoming space for women to be seen, heard, and held without judgment. In community, we find comfort, encouragement, and the power to rise together. We foster spaces where joy, truth, and transformation can flourish, because healing multiplies when shared.
Our Vision
We envision cultivating sacred community spaces that honor the distinct needs, histories, and wellness gaps of Black women; spaces where we are free to care for ourselves without guilt, gather without judgment, and heal without limits; a world where we transform wellness by bridging mental and physical well‑being, empowering Black women to reclaim their rest and live in radiant wholeness.
Women in our community are pouring from empty cups.
The Stress Gap: Nationally, women report significantly higher stress levels than men (34% vs 22%).
The Alabama Reality: Our state ranks 46th in the nation for women’s health and well-being.
Our Solution: We provide the "peer-led" support structures that Black women in Birmingham specifically rely on for mental resilience. (Source: APA; Institute for Women's Policy Research)
The Chronic Struggle: Millions of women live with conditions like Lupus, Cancer, and Autoimmune Disorders, which often carry a heavy emotional and mental toll that goes unaddressed in clinical settings.
The SCD Focus: While we welcome all chronic illness warriors, we place a primary focus on Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) due to its prevalence in our local community.
The Mental Health Gap: Nationally, 1 in 3 adults with SCD experience clinically significant depression and anxiety. In Jefferson County, SCD-related ER visits are significantly higher than the national average, making "emotional restoration" the #1 requested non-medical service. Caregivers are the backbone of our families, yet they are often left behind.
The Caregiver Burden: 40% to 70% of family caregivers suffer from symptoms of depression and total physical exhaustion.
The Resource Gap: Alabama ranks 48th out of 50 states in support for family caregivers.
The Impact: Gorgeous Souls is filling the gap for the 800,000 Alabama caregivers providing $7.7 billion in unpaid care every year. (Source: AARP; Family Caregiver Alliance)
The heart of Gorgeous Souls, Inc. beats with over 20 years of grassroots service, spiritual leadership, and transformative empowerment for women and girls. Long before the organization was formally established, our Founder was faithfully sowing seeds of healing, dignity, and hope throughout the Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, Alabama areas, and beyond.
Since 2003, she has served as the founder of several ministries and outreach programs that impacted hundreds of teens, women, and those experiencing homelessness through summits, conferences, empowerment sessions, retreats, food service, and community giveaways.
Her lifelong commitment includes:
Leading powerful women’s conferences and teen summits focused on healing, identity, and spiritual alignment
Facilitating empowerment sessions in elementary and middle schools, giving young girls the tools to embrace confidence and emotional well-being early
Delivering transformational coaching workshops for college women, especially around feminine power, self-worth, and purpose
Providing life coaching and emotional support sessions at a local homeless shelter for women
Conducting homeless outreach throughout the years, offering food, clothing, hygiene products, prayer, and presence to those in need
Hosting private coaching sessions and group classes that have helped countless women return home to themselves and awaken their divine authenticity
Her work has been rooted in the belief that every woman and girl deserves to be seen, supported, and spiritually restored. As a trusted community partner, she has collaborated with organizations such as Pathways Women's Shelter, Faith Chapel Christian Center, Irondale Middle School, Whatley Elementary School, Marks Village Community Center, Miles College, Samford University, Birmingham YMCA, Birmingham YWCA, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, and the Sickle Cell Center at Grady Health in Atlanta, GA.
These decades of sacred service now live on through Gorgeous Souls, Inc., a developing nonprofit created to expand and sustain this mission. Our programs are the continuation of a legacy, one that empowers women and girls to heal, rise, and shine from the inside out.
