JOB DESCRIPTION
The Technician II, under general supervision, evaluates, selects, and applies standard scientific techniques used in research or support laboratories.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Lab combines novel lab, field and modeling experiments in a holistic way to advance science at the nexus of Food, Energy and Environmental Security. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to join a vibrant and diverse research community promoting a culture of collaboration and cross-disciplinary research. Our focus is to find answers to one of today’s grand challenges: How can we sustainably provide sufficient food, feed and energy as the population continues to grow while enhancing the resilience and sustainability of agricultural and managed land? The successful candidate will contribute to projects that aim at: 1) investigating how restoration and soil amendments affect the C cycling of grassland ecosystems in Texas; 2) studying how climate-change resilience plant traits affect the biogeochemistry of canes in the Southern US; and, 3) investigating how utility-scale photovoltaics influence provisioning and supporting ecosystem services and soil organic carbon dynamics in rangelands.
RESPONSABILITIES
· Independently pursues an assigned series of processes, procedures, or area of research in accordance with general approved plans and procedures
· Plans and executes procedures and work details.
· Collects, collate, and store samples.
· Evaluates and analyzes results.
· Constructs, modifies, adapts, assembles, and operates scientific and laboratory mechanisms and equipment.
· Use computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data.
· Summarizes and evaluates data for scientific materials requiring academic knowledge.
· Make and records observations and measurements.
· Research and catalogs reference materials require understanding of subject matter theory.
· Plans and supervises technical operation.
REGISTRATIONS, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSES:
None required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in a related field or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Two years of related experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
· Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific applications, and computer equipment.
· Ensures attention to details. Able to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Ability to exert heavy force. Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.
