How can you help animal shelters? There are many ways to help, even if you can't adopt!
Adoption is a great way to support shelters, but if you can't take in a pet, donations of money, supplies, or your time are a great way to help. All across the world, shelters are faced with hardships because of the rising number of pet neglect and abandonment. Many shelters are overcrowded and need food along with other supplies for the animals. Doing one of the simple steps below, you can help the shelters and animals greatly!
1. DIY Pet Toys: There are many easy toys that you can make using materials you have at home. An old tee-shirt can become a pom-pom for a cat in a shelter or a braided rope toy for a shelter dog! There are many in-depth tutorials that are easy to follow online!
2. Volunteer: An hour or two of your time can be extremely helpful to animal shelters. Find a shelter near you, and go on their website, where you can then find multitudes of information on what role you can play as a volunteer. There are opportunities for people of all ages to lend a helping hand and improve the lives of many animals!
3. Spread the Word: Most people have social media, and through these platforms, many more animals are getting noticed and adopted! Play your part by posting about available animals. You can also make eye-catching fliers of adoptable pets and post them around your community. One flier can give an animal a forever home!
4. Raise Money: Host a bake sale, lemonade stand, or other event to help raise money for animals. If you say that it's for a local shelter, many people will be willing to purchase to help give back. With this money, you can donate it, or look online for supplies that they need and purchase it for them!
5. Donate: Most shelters have a running list of supplies that they need. Maybe you have some unopened peanut butter that would be a great help to a shelter dog. You can also go to a pet store and grab some of those supplies. The shelters will be very grateful!
