Every success story has a humble beginning and this becomes the start of something big.
This holds true to Golden Acres National High School which traces its beginning as one of the annexes of Las Piñas National High School in 1994 by virtue of Municipal Resolution 227-91 sponsored by then Councilor Luis Bustamante and signed by Former Mayor Gabriel P. Casimiro duly authorized by the then Sangguniang Bayan of Las Piñas.
Located at a former garbage dumping site at Lot A Block IV, Macapuno Street along Marcos Alvarez Avenue, in Barangay Talon I, the school which was then called Las Piñas National High School-Golden Acres Annex, initially had two 2-storey buildings ( 1 Academic Building with 5 classrooms and 1 Learning Resource Center which housed the library, home economics practice house, guidance office and the office of the principal).
When it was inaugurated on June 6, 1994, the school had an enrolment of 581 students. These students came from the nearby Barangays of Talon, Almanza and Pilar. There were initially 10 classes from first year to third year with a teaching staff consisted of 19 teachers who all came from the main school.
The present GANHS is a big improvement over its 1994 version. Within the span of a few years, two buildings were added to its skyline: the 6-room,3-storey DPWH Building and a 3-room, 3-storey Villar Building funded nationally. To be credited for this is the then Congressman Manuel B. Villar Jr and Mayor Vergel A. Aguilar.
Through the years, student population increased. This presented new problems of administration and management. The cudgel was first taken by the charismatic and cool former guidance counsellor of the main school, Mr. Ricardo B. De los Santos (1994-2000), the first Officer In-Charge whose term saw the growth of GANHS from a fledgling and struggling institution to a full-grown one.
In 2000, when Mr. De los Santos was promoted Principal of Las Piñas North National High School, Miss Leticia S. De Lachina, a disciplinarian with a heart, who once served as P.E Department Head at the main school, took over (2000-2008). The next eight years saw the principalship of Miss De Lachina with several developments and she has inspired many of her faculty to grow professionally. She answered the needs of a continually growing student population in terms of more chairs and expanded canteen and library. She is best remembered and credited for making a big change in the school because it was during her term in 2004 when what used to be an annex school evolved into the Golden Acres National High School, named after the subdivision where the school is situated.
From March to May 2010, the brilliant and charming Division Education Supervisor of English, Dr. Violeta M. Gonzales, took over the stewardship of the school after the retirement of Miss De Lachina. Dr. Gonzales may have served only for a short period but she has nevertheless left an imprint worth remembering especially worth mentioning was the very organized graduation ceremonies held during her short stint and the smooth transition of power to the next administrator.
Miss Phondora S. Capistrano (2008-2009), the soft-spoken and congenial former officer in-charge of Las Piñas East National High School-Talon Village Annex, took over from where Miss De Lachina left off. She is one, whose star has been steadily rising and shining brightly, thanks to her cool, practical and nonsensical approach to problems. She had a different management style but no less brilliant than her predecessors. In less than a year, tangible and intangible change were felt and seen in the campus. Miss Capistrano was not to stay long though. She left the school May 2009 to move on to the position of Principal III at Las Piñas East National High School, but not without leaving a legacy which will be passed on from one generation of GANHSer to another. The school gradually became one of the leader schools in the division both in the academic and co-curricular achievements. But more than that, she had left a battlecry which everyone had taken to heart: to continue the culture of excellence.
Upon the arrival of a new dynamic lady principal from CAA National High School Annex in June 2009 in the person of Dr. Edita B. Valdez, the school improved by leaps and bounds in all areas despite the infancy stage of her administration. One of her early achievements is the decongestion of the school population to a level conducive to quality learning made sustainable through its available resources. Out of the school savings, the school underwent a metamorphosis which never fails to amaze its visitors and alumni alike. The face-lifting of different offices like the principal’s office , school library, school clinic, guidance office, property/supply room and the repainting of school buildings and classrooms are positive proofs of this lady's creative mind and determination in making the school glitter like gold in all aspects, truly living up to its name.
In a sudden turn of events weeks after the opening of school year 2013-2014, the school welcomed its new principal, Mr. Carlos Alexander S. Rigon. He is an accomplished administrator having served as Officer In- Charge of Las Piñas East National High School’s annexes-Talon Village and Equitable Village respectively. He then went on to bring honor and prestige as principal of Las Piñas North National High School with his creative, visually appealing and award winning innovations. With Mr. Rigon as administrator, GANHS saw a genuine transformation never before seen, from the students’ improved achievements and discipline, to the promotion of the teachers’ welfare and development, and down to the aesthetic enhancement of the physical facilities, the school is truly in good hands.
To date, Mr. Darwin B. Mayo is the current principal of GANHS. The school continues to soar high and achieve greater heights with its students and teachers giving a sense of pride to GOLDEN ACRES NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL that they are all proud of.
