Introduction and Overview
The Golden State Killer is one of the most shocking and awful serial crimes in the United States. Joseph James DeAngelo committed Criminal Act between 1974 & 1986, during which he raped over 50 ladies, killed 13 ladies & men, and burgled 100 times. At first, the police thought that different people committed the crimes because the crimes were of various types and were committed in different places. Nevertheless, forensic science, especially DNA analysis, is tied to the crimes in question (Bruen, 2018).
DeAngelo avoided the police for over twenty years and is known by several aliases. His arrest in 2018 at the age of 74 brought milestones in forensic DNA phenotyping, especially with genetic genealogy a s a component (United States Department of Justice, 2018). This case changed the outlook of forensic investigations, especially the cold ones, by embracing genetic genealogy as a vital tool for solving what had been unsolvable crimes.
