Hi everyone! My name is Hao Huang and I am an M.Ed. student in the Languages and Literature Education Program in the Department of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning at the University of Toronto. And I also got a MA degree in Southeast Asian Studies from National University of Singapore in 2016.
I have been teaching English to high school students in China for more than five years. From my teaching practice, I have noticed that the only motivation for students to learn English is to pass the exams and most importantly to achieve high scores in the National Entrance Exams (or Gao Kao in Chinese). English is a quite challenging subject for Chinese students since they lack the English learning environment and many students have little motivation to learn more except for the exams. I have been long seeking ways to motivate students to learn and the theory of growth mindset and self-efficacy give me great inspiration. Therefore, this website is something I want to share with teachers who are seeking for approaches to motivate students to learn whatever subjects.
