Research spin physics for application in information technology
Modern information technology is based on electrons. Electrons have not only charge but also spin. In an atom, the spin of electrons develops a magnetic moment. In a material, the magnetic moments of atoms are coupled and induce magnetization. We study the spin properties of electrons and magnetic properties of materials for application in information technology.
Memory device is the key application for information technology. In daily life, you can experience various mechanisms for memory. For example, your brain memorizes information by neuro-biology. In books, information is kept by arrangements of ink molecules on paper. In modern electronic devices, information is kept by confining electron charge in a certain space or by aligning electron spin in a certain direction. For a high performance of the spin-memory, we need to study mechanisms of the spin conversion from other energy sources of charge, heat, and light.
