“All life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. . .Before you finish eating breakfast in the morning, you’ve depended on more than half the world.” Dr. Martin Luther King (1967)
Global education combines the knowledge of current world events with an understanding of the people who are experiencing those events. Global education helps students to understand that they are individuals who are a part of a larger community beyond their limited geographical location in the world. Through classroom lessons and experiential learning, teachers can help students become conscious of their role in the world around them. To build a conscientious citizenry, teachers must encourage each student to see the world through the lens of a global citizen with a responsibility to interact and react to world events. 21st century teachers must translate current global events into lessons that apply to student lives. Students must learn how to relate to other people who are interconnected in our world today through real-world learning and virtual experiences both in and out of the classroom in order to build a brighter future of culturally and globally competent, caring humans.
Welcome to my website, a resource for anyone ready to learn more about global education, the study of our world and our place in it. As educators, we must strive to lead our students in investigating the world at a local, national and global level; recognizing perspectives of individuals in our classrooms, countries and continents; communicating ideas of other cultures and taking action to improve the world. COVID 19 has changed the United States and our world, yet now more than ever, we are all connected as citizens in an interdependent world.
In an evolving and changing world, we educators must teach our students how individual actions impact the world. We must help students become conscious of their power to influence the world around them. The goal of this site is to provide teachers with resources and ideas to foster conscientious, courageous global citizens. By educating ourselves we can better educate our students.
Thank you for visiting and for all you do for students!
