The International Workshop on the 'Global Plant Health Assessment: The Future of Plant Health' was held in Toulouse, France, on November 20-22, 2024, at Université Toulouse II Jean‐Jaurès, Maison de la Recherche. Sessions were held in hybrid mode. Program of the workshop can be accessed at GPHA Toulouse Program 2024.
Goal:
To develop an overall strategy involving a collective of individual scientists and a collective of specific projects, which will address the state of plant health, and the future of plant health, respectively.
Objectives:
1. Identification of a set of individual projects which would be networked within the Global Plant Health Assessment.
2. Identification of a shared platform of methods, approaches, and possibly data, which all projects could access freely.
3. Identification of a specific team, and of terms of reference for this team, which would develop a series of scenarios for the future on behalf of the entire GPHA. These scenarios and their associated parameters would then be used by all projects.
4. Address the issue of disease‐ losses (and more generally: pathogens and pest‐losses): the availability of such data in an open, free web‐based ISPP data base. This would entail conducting an International Symposium on Pathogen‐ and Pest‐Losses in Agricultural and Forest Systems, jointly with the FAO and the corporate sector.
5. Identify “ground rules” for publication of research done under the GPHA in terms of support (Secretariat, Coordination, and members of the collectives in general), and overall strategy.
6. Develop shared teaching materials to be used to train a new generation of plant health scientists.
7. Consult within the GPHA collective on the respective roles of the Scientific Secretariat and Scientific Coordination, and their composition, if such structures are maintained in the future.
