The Global Language Initiative is a youth-operated organization acting as a platform for young people all over the world to learn languages and explore other cultures.
GLI connects active language learners with people who speak that language fluently. Students are able to cultivate their language skills while volunteers can volunteer simply by talking to someone--all online, from the comfort of their own homes! The GLI team is currently focusing on forging links between English-speaking volunteers — who want to learn about other cultures and obtain volunteer hours — and students who are improving their English language skills. After prospective participants fill out an application form and participate in an interview process, we will connect them with a conversational buddy (another teenager!) who has compatible interests.
Through international communication, volunteers will discover new cultures, and students will improve their speaking skills and learn more about a different culture.
Our Mission — increase relativism, fight ethnocentrism, and increase diplomatic relations through facilitating language learning and international communication.
The Global Language Initiative (GLI) was started to combat worldwide discrepancies surrounding teen language education. By providing a platform for cross-cultural interaction and the resources needed for mastering a lingua franca, GLI hopes to arm the next generation of world citizens with the tools necessary to combat ethnocentrism, thereby promoting diplomacy.
GLI started as one teen’s dream of improving her own language education and has spread to incorporate a team of students passionate for world change, scattered throughout the world! Join us and make our dream a reality!
