The Spear is one of the four legendary weapons of ancient China: gun 棍 (staff), dao 刀 (sabre), jian 剑 (straight sword), and qiang 枪 (spear). The Spear was the mightiest of them and considered "The King of Weapons" because it combined features of all the other types of weapons. Mastery of the Spear is regarded as the hardest of the weapons as well.
Many deities and gods are depicted wielding one of the four legendary weapons, such as Sun Wukong's jingubang staff or the Sword of Goujian.
