I had the opportunity to present at the 1st FuJo PhD Conference on “Media, Democracy, and Society,” held on September 6, 2024, at the DCU Glasnevin Campus. It was a pleasure to share my research on “Political Bots in the Age of AI: Analyzing the European Union’s AI Act” during today's conference.
It was an incredible experience to engage with peers on the 'Politics in the Digital Age' panel and discuss my work.
TILTing Perspectives Conference “Looking back, moving forward: Re-assessing technology regulation in digitalized worlds”
I had the privilege of attending the 8th edition of the TILTing Perspectives Conference, “Looking Back, Moving Forward: Re-assessing Technology Regulation in Digitalized Worlds,” held at Tilburg University in Tilburg from July 8-10, 2024. The event provided an excellent platform for discussing the evolving landscape of technology regulation.
I was excited to present my research, "Regulating Political Bots in the Age of AI: Analyzing the European Union's AI Act," during the parallel session "Legal Challenges in the Era of Generative AI" on Tuesday, July 9th, from 16:00-17:30.
I had the honor of presenting at the "AI and Governance" panel at the Faculty of Law, University of Ljubljana. My presentation focused on "Protecting Free Elections in the Age of Political Bots: Assessing the AI Act in the Context of the European Convention on Human Rights."
I am deeply grateful to my supervisors, Aphra Kerr Ph.D., MA, and Dr. David Mangan, for their invaluable guidance and support. Before my presentation, I had the pleasure of meeting the Irish Ambassador to Slovenia. Her encouraging words set a positive tone for the day.
A heartfelt thank you to Professor Dr. Vasilka Sancin for organizing such a unique and impactful event. The dedication and hard work of the entire conference team were truly appreciated. It was about “The Social Science Deficit in AI Regulation: An Analysis of the Composition of the European Commission's High-Level Group of Experts on Artificial Intelligence and Implications for Technology Regulation”, and was presented at Law Section at the 2023 conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research, IAMCR 2023, hosted in Lyon, France by Sciences Po Lyon from 9-13 July 2023.
Our analysis focused on the composition of the European Commission's High-Level Group of Experts on Artificial Intelligence (AI-HLEG).
I am grateful for the insightful discussions, constructive feedback, and thought-provoking comments that have enriched this research.

The abstract was "Protecting Elections in the Digital Age: Examining the Potential Regulatory Impact of the EU’s Draft AI Act on Political Bots". I want to thank everyone who participated for their insightful discussions, feedback, and comments. It was an amazing experience to be part of such an engaged and knowledgeable community.
