No! Reading for the Read-A-Thon is based on the honor system (we're all already tracking reading for class!). Use your donation (and/or friends and family donations) to challenge your student to keep reading or to read even more.
Of course not! All fundraising participation is completely optional. You can get as involved (or uninvolved) as you'd like.
For the fall fundraiser, you may choose to encourage extra reading and not donate money. You can donate money and not read more. Or you can do both! You can also support the school and PTO in non-financial ways by volunteering for events or attending our meetings.
Our annual fundraising goal is $31,000. For the Read-A-Thon, we hope to raise $9,000 in order to meet our financial obligations for the year.
We have short and long-term goals that drive our fundraising efforts.
Our short-term goal is to help meet our yearly budget of $31,000. What does the $31,000 cover?
Student Support: field trips (buses and attendance), after-school clubs (Sister Circle, Nature Club), student dance, art fair
Teacher Support: Conference/Welcome Back meals, library support, staff recognition, teacher appreciation week
Community Events: Back to School Bash, Trunk or Treat, End-of-Year Celebration
Our long-term goals are larger initiatives. PTO works with school leadership on identifying these initiatives and the financial obligation required to execute them. Larger initiatives for consideration include updated/new playground with increased accessibility, courtyard updates, school renovations, and more.
The Givens PTO works to build relationships between staff, students, parents, and students through school events, clubs, and various other opportunities. We fundraise in order to provide opportunities and supplies to support the learning environment of our students and staff.
PTO has two main fundraisers every school year: a fall fundraiser (Read-A-Thon) and a spring fundraiser (trivia night on 4/11/26). We have various other small fundraisers throughout the year including dine-outs, shopping parties, and more. Keep an eye on Parent Square for those opportunities!
All Givens parents and caregivers are welcome to support and participate in the PTO. Opportunities to get involved vary depending on how much time you'd like devote. Examples include:
Helping out at an event
Being a room parent or helping room parents on the day of a class party
Volunteering for a committee: fundraising, trivia night, campus beautification, etc.
Attending a fundraising event
Joining the PTO Executive Board
