Giulia Santambrogio is an italian artist based in Lugano, Switzerland.
She studied art between Milan and Monza.
She graduated in 2015 in Figurative Art at the High school of Preziosissimo Sangue in Monza.
She continued her studies at the Brera Fine Arts Academy where she graduated in 2018 in Disciplines of the enhancement of cultural heritage with a thesis titled It's done with nature. From natural science museums to contemporary art (original title: Si fa con la natura. Dai musei di scienze naturali all’arte contemporanea).
Her artistic production never stopped, she alternated the study of nature, investigated through art installation and photography, and issues related to maternity and the female body, dealt with different media (photography, collage, digital drawing).
In 2021 Giulia specializes in Visual Arts - Paint in Brera with a thesis project titled I am the body (original title: Sono corpo), a result of pictorial and plastic research with strong theoretical bases linked to contemporary dance.
Giulia meets the austrian artist Iris Dittler during her Erasmus semester in Marseille (September 2019 February 2020) and she gets to know her creative method.
Giulia’s research is inspired by works of female artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Maria Lassnig and Maria Lai.
The pictorial research on the body is complementary to the performative dimension.
Her last works are textile sculpures used in performances to show how a body can rebirth, connect to the world and build relationships.
Curious, spontaneous, interdisciplinary and dissipative, Giulia uses art to investigate her visual and existential reality, to perceive herself as a living, thinking and changing body.
