Through SPARK (Societally-relevant Projects to Apply and Retain Knowledge), I am so fortunate to be able to organize projects where our students who are about to graduate work to address a real societally relevant challenge in connection with external partners. The approach links the academic community to complex questions beyond the university and creates a setting in which students apply their fundamental knowledge in a rigorous, collaborative, and socially relevant way. For external partners, this offers an opportunity to engage with motivated students, contribute to their learning, and explore fresh perspectives on challenges that matter in practice.
