GISHW Consortium

The GISHW (Global Initiative for the Safety, Health & Well-being) Consortium was established within the Osaka University Research Association to promote solutions to societal challenges through the power of technology and advance safety, health, and well-being.

Technology is a key foundation for sustainable social development, and international collaboration is increasingly essential to address shared challenges and create new value across borders and regions.

Bringing together Osaka University’s advanced academic expertise and GISHW’s global industry–academia–government network, the Consortium serves as an international platform for knowledge sharing, co-creation, and the social implementation of innovation.

By accelerating the adoption of advanced technologies, promoting international exchange and mobility of talent, and strengthening innovation ecosystems through collaboration among diverse stakeholders, the Consortium contributes to building a sustainable, safe, and secure society.

As a bridge connecting technology, society, and the world, the GISHW Consortium is committed to creating new value and fostering international collaboration centered on safety, health, and well-being.

The GISHW Consortium was established to carry forward and expand the vision, achievements, and international network of the Global Initiative for Safety, Health & Well-being (GISHW), which gained global recognition at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan.

Under the theme Designing Future Society for Our Lives, Expo 2025 brought together diverse people, ideas, and expertise from around the world. Within this framework, GISHW became the first initiative in World Expo history to place Safety, Health and Well-being (SHW) at the center of its agenda. With participation from stakeholders across 68 countries and regions, GISHW was widely recognized as a unique platform that fostered interdisciplinary and international collaboration extending beyond traditional expert communities.

To ensure that these achievements continue beyond a single event and evolve into long-term international cooperation, the GISHW Consortium was established at Osaka University in November 2025. Bringing together universities, research institutions, industry, international organizations, and standards bodies, the Consortium promotes research, innovation, social implementation, and international standardization in SHW-related fields through advanced technologies such as AI, robotics, sensing, and human augmentation.

As a lasting legacy of Expo 2025 and a driving force toward the Riyadh 2030 Expo, where the next GISHW event is planned, the Consortium is committed to advancing Safety, Health and Well-being for people around the world.

We warmly invite researchers, companies, institutions, and innovators worldwide to join this growing community of co-creation, transcending disciplines and borders to shape a safer, healthier, and more sustainable future together.

The successful convening of an international event dedicated to the Safety, Health and Well-being of all 8 billion people in July 2025 marked a historic milestone. For the first time in the 174-year history of World Expos, this topic was addressed as a central global priority. Over four days in Osaka, leading companies, researchers, and policy leaders from 68 countries and regions came together to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and establish a truly global platform for collaboration.

This achievement represents far more than the success of a single event. It sends a powerful message that the world is already moving toward a future where Safety, Health and Well-being are recognized as essential foundations of sustainable development. In particular, the strong international interest in Japan's leadership in Well-being Tech highlights the field's growing importance as a key driver of future innovation and growth.

In response to this global momentum, I warmly welcome the establishment of the GISHW Consortium at Osaka University. This initiative embodies the lasting legacy of Expo 2025 and provides a platform through which researchers, businesses, international organizations, and civil society can work together to advance a human-centered and socially sustainable future.

Technological innovation has the potential to accelerate the development of smarter, safer, and more inclusive societies. The GISHW Consortium is uniquely positioned to serve as a hub for international collaboration, helping transform ideas into practical solutions and lasting impact.

Under Japan's leadership, I hope to see GISHW's global network connected to the implementation of Well-being Tech, contributing to improved Safety, Health and Well-being worldwide. I warmly encourage companies, institutions, and innovators from around the globe to join this movement. Together, with partners in Japan and across the world, we can build a new society centered on human well-being.

The GISHW event at Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai was an innovative and truly global initiative. As a leader in Osaka’s MICE sector, I am proud that we were able to host such a valuable international event in Osaka. To build on the momentum it created and turn it into sustained progress, we need a strong platform that fosters collaboration with the international community.

Universities have an essential role to play in creating such a platform. Beyond research and education, it is increasingly important to promote the development and social implementation of cutting-edge technologies through collaboration among industry, academia, government, and civil society, and to translate the outcomes of these efforts into international standards. The establishment of the GISHW Consortium at Osaka University last November, bringing together industry, academia, government, and civil society from around the world, represents an important step forward for Osaka and the Kansai region, and I have high expectations for its continued development.

The Osaka Convention & Tourism Bureau will continue to work closely with the Osaka Prefectural Government to attract more visitors and further accelerate MICE activities. Taking the spirit of “Co-Creation” championed by Expo 2025 to the next stage, the GISHW Consortium will expand opportunities to work with companies and organizations in Japan and around the world to create new value and advance the implementation of safety, health, and well-being.

Solving social challenges through cutting-edge technologies and translating the outcomes into international standards that can be shared with the world—this is a new role that Osaka and Kansai can and should play. Together, let us expand the circle of co-creation from Osaka to the world, creating a future that connects us all.
