Giri is a tabla player and percussionist. He received formal training in tabla from Muthu Kumar, a disciple of Ustad Alla Rakha and Ustad Zakir Hussain, as well as Carnatic vocal music from his mother. He now combines his roots in Indian classical music with music from other traditions. He frequently collaborates with musicians from diverse genres such as western classical, jazz, flamenco, metal, and more. Giri is known for his ability to blend styles, his versatility, and captivating tone.
Giri has shared the stage with internationally acclaimed artists like Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan and Shreya Ghoshal. He also plays tabla and percussion with the world-renowned Berklee Indian Ensemble, which received a Grammy® nomination for its debut album, Shuruaat.
