GIRAFFE

original compositions by Matteo Paggi
Matteo Paggi, trombone player alongside the international jazz icon Enrico Rava in the group "Fearless Five", and winner of the Top Jazz (IT) in 2025,
presents his project GIRAFFE.
In the world of symbolism, the giraffe symbolizes “foresight”: with its head far from its heart, the mind is free to fly freely, but at the same time, the fire that resides in the chest, the passions, are free to burn without hindrance.
With this concept, Matteo visualized the band's performance, which alternates between intellectually written songs that require passion and dynamism to be played, and improvisations of “instant composing” that involve significant use of electronics and a more ambient atmosphere.
Winners of I-Jazz's “Next Jazz Generation 2025” award, they released their first album for Jam/Unjam in 2025, distributed by Universal.
Fresh from an international tour that saw them perform on many European stages, including: GrachtenFestval, JazzMi, Controtempo Jazz&Wine, Laren Jazz, Casa del Jazz, Getxo Jazz Festival, Macerata Jazz, Pisa Jazz, Jazz on the Road, Padova Jazz, Klub Stala, Jazz i Halmstad, Aviles 50/50 Jazz and Poetry, and others.

“In Matteo Paggi, one glimpses the rare spark of creative genius, a soul born for music. His playing is a tapestry of enchantment, where each note feels both discovered and destined. With effortless grace, he traverses styles as a bird crosses skies, unbound, unburdened, guided by an inner light. There is mystery in his phrasing, fire in his silence, and poetry in his touch. He is not merely a promise for the future: he is already a voice the future will remember"
Gidon Kremer
“Not only is Matteo Paggi an exciting new voice on the trombone, he is also a musician whose stylistic scope and breadth of curiosity enable him to shine in multiple settings, captivating listeners with musical ideas consistently unexpected and richly imaginative."
David Lewis
