Giovanni Cantele is professor at the Physics Department "Ettore Pancini" of University of Naples "Federico II". From 2002 to July 2025 he has been staff researcher for the Italian National Research Council (CNR).

His research activity involves the theoretical simulation of the structural, electronic, optical and transport properties of materials, surfaces, interfaces and nanostructures, with more than 70 papers published in peer-reviewed international journals. 

He also contributes to the University teaching/formation activities, through courses for both PhD and undergraduate students as well as student/Phd student/Post-Doc supervisor.
