Giovanni Cantele is Professor of Theoretical Condensed Matter Physics at the University of Naples Federico II. 

A computational materials physicist with more than two decades of research experience at the Italian National Research Council, he combines first-principles electronic-structure calculations with Wannier-function, tight-binding, and effective-model approaches to investigate the structural, electronic, optical, spin, and transport properties of materials. 

His research spans semiconductor nanostructures, surfaces and interfaces, graphene, van der Waals heterostructures, and moiré materials, with particular emphasis on connecting atomic-scale structure with emerging electronic phenomena. 

Alongside his research, he has extensive experience teaching physics at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels, particularly in solid-state physics, materials physics, and the physics of nanostructures. He has authored more than 80 peer-reviewed publications, attracting over 4,400 citations, and is co-author of the Springer textbook Introduction to Solid State Physics and Crystalline Nanostructures.
