.Quarry Bank Mill near Manchester is a preserved 18th Century Cotton Mill. If you go there, you imagine how people's lives were changed so radically during The Industrial Revolution. People became individual cogs in the machine, under the rule of taskmasters and clocks.
When you visit Quarry Bank Mill, you can see, hear, feel the history for yourself, not only the awe-inspiring machines that produced yarn and cloth at tremendous speed, but the tiny marks in time left behind. Names scratched into the windowsills, scratches and dents in the floorboards and beams.
In creating these artworks, I think about those who came before and pioneered this incredible transition into the modern world. It’s a strange mix of emotions. This exhibition is my reaction.
