BLACK AND WHITE FILM PHOTOGRAPHY SELF-PORTRAIT PHOTO SERIES PITCH/CONCEPT:
"I would like to photograph myself with and possibly just some of my favorite things around my apartment for my self-portraits. Focusing on the things that I believe makeup who I am. For example, the posters on my wall, some of the knick-knacks placed on almost every surface I could find, my instruments, etc. I want to highlight what I’ve had since freshman year of college brought from my childhood home in California versus the things I've collected within the past four years of living here, ending with my newest yet possible favorite thing I obtained and brought back with me from LA over winter break- my bass. (Homage to Claude Cahun’s mask self portrait with same makeup and hair but holding base instead of mask). I hope to showcase how my tastes may have changed a bit here and there but also how the embodiment of my sense of self has stayed the same and only become stronger throughout my college career. Another concept I'm toying with is the definition of feminity and what that means to other people versus to me. How I should present myself and how I’m perceived versus how I would and commonly do present myself in a way that deters the idealization of a “lady.” I think these two could be combined or I can use the second idea for a project later in the semester. Photographers who inspire me: Claude Cahun (early surrealism), Sara Cwynar (structural/artistic concepts from glass life), Justine Kurland (concept of girl pictures), Janice Guy (feminist portraits)."
