Can you make your way into the abyss?
Inspirations:
This game aims to highlight asymmetry. Holding each sides lives in their hands with a symmetry of power, but some times the tower is asymmetrical.
This 2D puzzle platformer relies on having both characters descend together in order to reach the abyss below. At times asymmetrical obstacles will appear, relying on the abilities of each other to descend further.
What went well:
As the team's Designer, I handled the player movement and level design. These systems worked effectively to ensure a complete gameplay in a short timespan.
The level itself makes use of several obstacles to offer a challenge to the player.
Challenges:
One early issue was designing the mechanics between level transfers.
This was solved by introducing a focus for different segments. I built around fall damage, enemies and levers.
This helped to make each area feel more unique as the players descended below.
Lessons:
Scope is an important factor for making a game in a shorter timeframe. Another important lesson is being able to defend and explain design decisions or implementations to other members as when issues occur, helping others to understand how a mechanic works can help better with debugging.
