UNDER CONSTRUCTION

B-17G, Model 299P

-The high water mark in B-17 production and final standard model was the B-17G.

-The most notable feature of this model was the forward firing chin turret operated by the bomb aimer.

-The of larger paddle type propellers improved high altitude performance.

-Additional changes to the gun positions also improved the capabilities of the gunners. The waist positions were now offset allowing easier movement. The Cheyenne tail turret was also an improvement that increased field of fire and visibility

-About 8700 were made by Boeing, Lockheed and Douglas and entered service overseas in September 1943.

-Production continued through to the end of World War two when all government contracts were suspended.

-Many G models went straight from the factories to the storage yards to be reclaimed
