While the majority of your academic research here at Georgia Highlands College will probably consist of databases and academic journals accessed through GALILEO, sometimes an assignment might require you to use the library's catalog to look for a book on a specific topic or subject. Knowing what a book catalog is and how to effectively use it is important for your research skills and the many ways you can use library resources.
Review the content and visual aid that explains how, when, and why to use the GHC Book Catalog.
Answer the self-check questions at the end of this page.
Go to the next page of this module, Limiters.
The GHC Book Catalog is an electronic record of all GHC's physical library books, other materials loaned by GHC Library, and ebooks organized in a way that allows for searching. The Book Catalog does not contain articles that are typically found in a GALILEO search.
You may see the Book Catalog called different names such as GIL-Find or Primo.
In additional to the same limiters available in GALILEO (which you will learn about in the next section), you can also limit by genre and audience.
You can view the availability and location of physical books, and access ebooks easily.
You can request books from other USG institutions and have them sent to your preferred location for free.
Now that you know a little more about the GHC Book Catalog please review this diagram comparing tools and items that are available in the book catalog versus GALILEO (spoiler alert: they even have a few things in common).
