From a young age, I struggled to reconcile my own personal and cultural identity as a child of immigrant parents. Trying to navigate life not fitting into either the Latino or Canadian community. It led to me embracing my “other-ness”. Because of these difficulties, I chose to follow my dream of becoming a therapist to fill the gap I experienced growing up. If I described myself, it would have to be a passionate individual who centers myself on fostering a safe(r) space and practice for all people. I truly hope to make a change within society and reduce societal stigma around mental health.
I am passionate about supporting and working with women who are in the midst of transitioning into motherhood. A few of these transitions include perinatal mental health, infertility, birth trauma, grief and loss, infidelity, intimacy and relationships. Working with me, you will find someone who deeply cares and wants to understand who you are as a person and the experiences that have made you who you are today.
Some of my other specialties include working with the BIPOC community, individuals affected by sexual violence and trauma, couples, sexual health, abortion and TFMR. I also support those who have or are experiencing intergenerational trauma, racial trauma, cultural identity issues, and newcomer/immigrant mental health. I specifically practices from a trauma and culturally informed lens. Utilizing different modalities ranging from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Gottman Method, Somatic Therapy, Person-Centered and Mindfulness Practice.
My Philosophy
It is unfortunate that current systems oppress individuals which impacts one’s journey through life. People are more comfortable talking about their physical health, over their mental health because of the stigma associated with mental health.
As a Latina therapist, I am committed to serving those affected by such a stigma. As a second-generation Canadian, I am able to understand the difficulties and challenges faced by the BIPOC communities. Recognizing the courage it takes to even consider coming to therapy. At the centre of my practice is the core belief that people are capable of healing, development, and growth, despite how difficult life may seem. I acknowledge the need for acceptance, self-love and supports when navigating through life's hardships. I will try my best to help you see the possibility for growth within yourself.
Currently, I work primarily with adults (18+) and offers services in both English and Spanish.
Come join me and lets work together to end the stigma on Mental Health!
