Gruhe Gruhe Ramayanam – Pārāyaṇam FAQs

Anyone who is able to read fluently can do the Pārāyaṇam.
2. Which book should we refer to for the Pārāyaṇam?
While we recommend Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇam books by Gita Press Gorakhpur Publications, any VālmīkiRāmāyaṇam book that has all the seven Kāṇḍas can be used for the Pārāyaṇam. You can find the list of books and other resources at the end of the FAQs.
3. What if I don’t have the book?
If you don't have access to the book you can refer to the online link given below-
https://www.valmiki.iitk.ac.in/
Please note these online sources may have some content that may differ from Gita Press books.

A Pārāyaṇam session involves chanting the following in the given order.
· ādimangala shlokas

· antyamangala shlokas
6. What if I cannot start the Pārāyaṇam on 6th April 2025?
The program starts on 6th April 2025. However, if you cannot start on that day you can start later, provided you plan to catch up with the program by reading a few extra sargas.
7. Should we do the Pārāyaṇam every day?
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇam has approximately 648 Sargas. By reading 2 sargas a day the Pārāyaṇam can be completed in 324 days. Hence in order to complete reading the entire Rāmāyaṇa before the next Rāmanavami we recommend that the Pārāyaṇam be done regularly, if possible every day.
8. What if I have to put the Pārāyaṇam on hold for few days due to various reasons?
If you need to put the Pārāyaṇam on hold due to unavoidable circumstances, more sargas can be read in the following days to compensate for the delay.
9. Why two sargas a day?
Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇam has approximately 648 Sargas. By reading 2 sargas a day the Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇam can be completed in 324 days i.e. before the next Rāmanavami. We propose a plan to read atleast 2 sargas a day. Beyond that, the number of sargas can vary based on your convenience. You can read even one sarga a day and plan to make it up on other days.
10. What if I lag behind the schedule of the program?
If due to unavoidable circumstances you are behind schedule of the program, you can always compensate by reading more sargas in the following days. From our experience of running this program completing the Pārāyaṇam in one year is very doable.
11. We have heard of few reservations with regard to the Pārāyaṇam of the Uttarakāṇḍa?
As a program we believe that the Uttarakāṇḍa completes the Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇam, making it “Sampoorṇa Rāmāyaṇam”. We understand that some people do not wish to read the Uttarakāṇḍa due to various reasons. In such a case, you can conclude the Pārāyaṇam with Yuddhakāṇḍa and perform the Mangala Pooja.
12. What kind of assistance will GGR team provide for my Pārāyaṇam ?
The GGR team will send day-day messages on which sarga-Pārāyaṇam is planned on that day along with reference for audio assistance. The team also plans to send highlights and interesting information regularly. The team will be available on WhatsApp for any clarifications regarding the Rāmāyaṇa Pārāyaṇam. Additionally, queries can also be mailed to gruhegruheramayanam@gmail.com.
